Walt Starling Dies - 1/4 - Walt Starling, 52, died Tuesday. Starling, a pilot and the first airborne traffic reporter in the Washington area to become a major radio personality, was being treated at his Montgomery County home by hospice nurses and family. He was diagnosed last spring with colon cancer. More from WRC-TV, where he had most recently been a news editor and writer, WTOP, Radio And Records, Associated Press, the DC Post, and the DC Times. Dave Statter did a feature on Starling on WUSA-TV's 5 PM Tuesday newscast. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Friday, 1/7, at the First United Methodist Church in Hyattsville. A tribute will be held Saturday, 1/8, to raise funds to pay Starling's medical bills. Hosted by WMAL's David Burd, the event will take place at 6:30 PM at the Guildenhorn Recital Hall, in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, at the University Of Maryland in College Park.
